We are achieving lube oil consumptions of only 0.31 liter/hr (0.082 gal/hr) or 0.074 g/kWh (0.000121 lbs/bhp.hr) on the CAT G3616 running ECOSYN GE 4004 ester based synthetic gas engine oil.

The G3600 has a BSOC of 0.0008 lb/bhp-h for oil consumption.

 

To figure oil consumption in gallons use the following formula:

 

Oil Usage (gal/h) =  Engine Power (bhp) x Load Factor x BSOC (lb/bhp-h)   divided by 7.5

 

The 7.5 is the weight of one gallon of oil.

 

Oil Consumption as an Overall Indicator When the oil consumption of an engine has increased to three times the nominal oil

consumption due to normal wear, the engine should be considered for overhaul. The true measure of when to overhaul an engine is

performance as measured by output, fuel consumption, oil consumption, blow-by and compression. If an engine is still performing at

acceptable levels in all of these parameters, then it need not be overhauled. Therefore, to obtain minimum operating cost, it is helpful to

keep good records for the listed items.

 

This should help you figure out your oil consumption.

3616 Oil Usage

Can you tell me what the oil usage for a CAT 3616 should be?  I am including information from our spec sheet.
