Re: CAT 3116 TA / over heating

Check the marine gear cooler at the rear of engine. They often get plugged with salt. If plugged, raw water flow is restricted. Most good radiator shops can boil them clean.

CAT 3116 TA / over heating

CAT 3116 TA  year 2000 with 900 hours. I have had this boat for 1 year put 100 hours on it and never over heated, runs at 180 degrees. Took the boat out last  week ran up to 3000 rpm's and the temp. went to 205 degrees and the alarm went off.  Dropped down to 1600 rpm's and the temp dropped down to180 degrees. Looked at both coolers and raw water impeller, could us cleaning but not that bad. Could the head bolts have stretched, or could there be some blockage in the water system. no water in oil.

Any opinions,

Thank's

Ron
