To me, the track links, pins and bushing weren't worn enough so that the tracks would run with a link missing. If it was mine, I would put the machine back together, put the missing link back even if you had to leave out the seals. Tracks with a link missing do not engage the sprocket properly, it wears sprocket teeth like hell and just doesn't run right. If you only run the machine 10 hours a year, your beard wil be long and grey, like mine, before you need to worry about tracks again.BTW I am 72.

953 20z 1987 tracks 20% broke rod that keep tension on idler. Took track apart idler fell apart also took a link out of track and got new idler. Put back together and track way too tight. My ? Is can I cut 1/2 inch off tension rod to get enough slack to use machine. P.S I know 1/2 cocked way to do this but we don't use machine 10 hour a year not cost effective to get new undercarriage
