Re: Switch the speed/timing sensors

Thank you for your answers, they are very helpful.
So if I lose one of the two sensors, I need to replace both.

Re: Switch the speed/timing sensors

The sensors are sold as an assembly, both installed in the retainer bracket. The sensor are not to be swapped.

Re: Switch the speed/timing sensors

if i pull of the secondary sensor (not just disconnect the connector) and I put that in the place of primary sensor and switch the connectors to the ECM. the ECM will not notice the difference.

Or let's say, if i mad a mistak and put the primary sensor in the place of the secondary, i'will just have to switch the conncetor so it work.

Re: Switch the speed/timing sensors

Different part numbers, different resistance. The engine electronics is programmed to look for a specific signal. Switching the sensors would cause a fault code or engine would not run.

Switch the speed/timing sensors

Hi,

I'm monitoring an intervention in a Caterpillar C7 ACERT engine.

I can't see why the two speed/timing sensors are not switchable.

Both sensors detect the reference for engine speed and timing from a unique pattern on the camshaft gear, how the ECM can make the difference.

Thanks
