A major overhaul is normally performed after approx. 5000 hours.

Dear vmac.

You don't want to carry any overhauling or major overhauling.

Well at my place two G3612 are running at more than 100,000 running hour.

Thisl depends on the on the load factor on the genset & total fuel consumed and also the level of periodic maintainance of the genset. Normally if not abused Cat genset should run O.K. for 14000 to 180000 hrs. before requiring a complete overhaul.

For high-speed engine, a 12000-15000 hours before overhaul, for medium or low-speed engine, a 20000-30000 hours before overhaul.

This is dependent upon the make and model of the engine, as well as the usage.

Not all Caterpillar engine models have the same time to overhaul, and within the same model, the type of rating (Emergency -vs- Prime -vs- Continuous, or Industrial A, B, or C - Continuous, Intermittent, etc) all effect the overhaul period.

It would be best to consult your Operation & Maintenance Manual, or check with your engine dealer.
