Rigid body motion and vibration is well understood by most engine manufacturers and generator set assemblers who take the appropriate steps to develop the package to control excessive vibrations in their products. Nonetheless, all well designed and properly constructed diesel or gas engine driven power generating equipment (generator sets) will produce some level of vibrations that you need to be aware of. This way, when you install this equipment it will not become a nuisance to those in proximity. Aside from being a nuisance, excessive vibration, in many cases exacerbated by improper mounting can cause a piece of driven equipment to sustain failure, damage other pieces of equipment on the same foundation and/or cause structural damage.
