Re: 3406b

Say, why don't you want to utilize the alternator for the rpm?

Re: 3406b

I"m wrong on that. The threaded hole for the mag pickup is in the recess of the engine mount pad on the right side of the flywheel housing.

No, facing rear of engine. 4 or 8 o'clock on the housing.

Re: 3406b

The serial number is  4tb 02140. It is a marine propulsion engine. Is the position you are talking about on the oil filter side looking back to the housing.

Re: 3406b

There should be a threaded hole in the F/W housing for a mag pickup around the 4 or 8 o'clock position. You didn't state an engine serial number so no one would have any idea if this is a genset, truck, marine, industrial, or machine engine.

Can anyone tell me if I can fit a sensor in the fly wheel housing to get rpm instead of getting it of the alternator. There doesn't appear to be anywhere that I can see to fit one that will read from the outside of the flywheel but I do see a plug on the fwd side of the housing on the oil cooler side. Would this be where it picks it up from ?
