Usually on the valve cover or side of engine. Yours probably starts with 1WM or 7AS followed by 5 digits.

Re: 3126 vs 3306

Thanks Dave,

A cat dealer in WI told me I likely have a 3126B in it from factory.   I was told it should last a very long time and be reliable since the weight of my RV is typically around 18K LBS and will not be too strenuous on the motor even if towing an AWD Chevy Traverse on a dolly.  I was just told to keep the oil clean.

I just hope it's not a 3116.    However,   I did see an RV AD that was advertising a 40 foot RV, same year and model,    just 3 feet longer than mine with a 3126 in it.

Thank you for the reply.

Re: 3126 vs 3306

It's unlikely the engine will need a major overhaul at 300K miles but there are other choices besides trying to install an outdated, obsolete engine such as the 3306. You likely currently have a 3126 HEUI engine. There are complete reman engines available, along with short and long blocks. Another choice would be upgrading to a 3126B.

3126 vs 3306

New guy here.  Last experience I had with cat was working on a 3306 for power generation and rebuilding an injection pump.

I just recently purchased a 37 foot diesel pusher 1997 safari Serengeti with a 3126. 300 HP and 6 speed Allison tranny.  I think it might be a 3126b but not too sure.  It has 100k miles on it and its getting a fresh oil and filter change.  Not sure what all to look for on these but I know there are not any wet liners so around 300k miles its time to throw the motor or eat some costly reconditioning.

I would like to know how hard it would be to put in a 3306 cat with the sleeve metering pump or scroll metering, whichever was the more efficient in place of the 3126.  And also what model 3306 I would need to get.

Anything else to look for with the mileage I'm currently at on the 3126?

Any help us great
