Re: Cat 3116 HP Increase

No, the 275HP governor and turbo are different from the 300HP.

Re: Cat 3116 HP Increase

Dave 10010, Thank you for your response! Exactly what I was wanting to know and couldn't find anyone who wss sure about this topic. Would the turbo and governor off of my 275hp  work to increase the hp on a 250hp to 300?

Re: Cat 3116 HP Increase

The 3116 was available up to 300HP. Engines below 230HP would require different pistons, turbo, injectors, and governor to rerate to 300HP. 230HP and up would require only turbo and governor to make into 300HP. Also, fuel settings and timing dimension would need to be changed. If you'd want to install an electronic engine, a 3126B is the same footprint as the 3116. The electronic engine would require a custom wiring harness, throttle position sensor, and other cab switches.

Cat 3116 HP Increase

New member here in need of help. I have 1994 TopKick triaxle dump truck with a 275HP 3116 which needs to be replaced. My gross weight is 55,500 lbs. and I'm in the Texas Hill country so I'm trying to get as much HP as possible.

I am able to find plenty of reasonable priced used engines but they are all in the 185 to 225 range.

My question is what is involved in turning up  a 185 hp rated engine to at least 275 or maybe more? Any and all help is appreciated.
