HANDY HINT - What is Effective Gradient

Effective Gradient is the actual gradient of the road plus the rolling resistance for the entire road, for example from one waypoint to the next one.

Therefore if a road has no actual gradient then the effective gradient is the rolling resistance.  Or if actual gradient is 5% and rolling resistance is set to 4% the effective gradient will be 9%.

In Minstar 4.0.x the Effective Gradient has been removed from the main Road Segment Assistant page, but is still available by clicking the View > Filter and moving Effective Gradient from Exclude to Include.
